It also acts as a neutron shield, a catalyst, a dielectric ceramic and is used for filament coatings, special glasses, lasers, masers and telecommunication. It also serves as a laboratory reagent. It plays an important role as a potential contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
