Description
Molybdenum(IV) sulfide is used as a catalyst in the electrolysis of water. It is employed as a cocatalyst for desulfurization in petrochemistry especially hydrodesulfurization. It is also used as a component of photoelectrochemical and microelectronics applications. Further, it is useful as a filament material in many electrical applications. It finds application as a lubricant in aircraft engines. Polymers consisting of molybdenum(IV) sulfide such as nylon, teflon and vespel posses improved strength and reduced friction.
